Zit Happens!

Yes, you may be out of High School, but occasionally these little red monsters pop up, so here are some tips to help keep them at bay and some advice to help tame those little beasts in a timely manner when they do come to visit.

Prevention

  • The best form of prevention is to keep your skin clean. Follow a daily three-step skin-cleansing regimen (cleanse, tone, moisturize)! This will keep your skin in peak condition and is the best thing you can do to minimize the red minefield.

  • Exfoliating your face with a good product (we like Jack Black Face Buff) a couple times a week will remove excess dead skin cells, depriving them the opportunity to clog up your pores.

  • Make sure you cleanse your skin well before and after any strenuous activity. You don't want zit causing bacteria waiting to get into your pores when you start sweating or hanging around after you get done.

  • Use clean towels! Dirty towels collect bacteria and dirt, so using one to dry off is just asking for pizza face.

Treatment

  • It is best not to "pop" or squeeze them AT ALL, especially with your fingers. This only causes swelling and the bacteria you release will help them spread (however, reality says sometimes you'll do it anyways because you can't leave a great impression with a huge whitehead. If you must, use a skin tool instead of your fingers).

  • When Mt. Vesuvious shows up, ice will help reduce the swelling!

  • Use high quality products designed specifically for treating acne (Anthony Logistics carries a good line). They will help kill the bacteria, expedite the healing process, and nourish the skin.

Remember the best treatment is prevention. Cleansers, toners, and exfoliation products used on a regular basis keep your pores clean and un-clogged.
